Europe holds Pink October campaigns for breast cancer awareness

Various European nations are conducting widespread public health campaigns during October, known as ‘Pink October’, to promote breast cancer awareness and early detection.

In Romania, initiatives include free mammography programs in Bucharest for women aged 50 to 69 through the Saint Nectarie Health Center and the SAFE program. In Cluj-Napoca, the Ion Chiricuță Oncology Institute is organizing a large-scale solidarity event where participants will form a human ribbon to highlight the importance of screening, noting that Romania has one of the lowest screening rates in the EU.

In Slovakia, medical professionals are warning against ignoring prevention, as cancer is increasingly affecting younger women. Local communities are also organizing marches and solidarity events to support patients.

In Hungary, members of parliament have donned pink clothing to draw attention to the disease, which accounts for nearly 8,000 new cases annually. In Germany, local actions such as the ‘Pinktober’ event in Elberfeld are also contributing to the regional awareness efforts.
