European tourism trends show records in Slovenia and Burgenland

Tourism in Slovenia and parts of Austria and Croatia is seeing significant shifts and record-breaking numbers. Slovenia reported record-breaking tourism in July, with nearly 1.2 million arrivals and approximately 3.3 million overnight stays. This growth is particularly driven by visitors from Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Poland, with mountain regions seeing the highest increase.

In Austria, Burgenland reached a new record for overnight stays between January and July, bolstered by an increase in foreign visitors from the Czech Republic and Hungary. However, commuters in the Eastern Region will face rising costs as the VOR transport association increases prices for annual passes and KlimaTickets by an average of 3.5 percent starting September 1, 2026.

In Croatia, the Kvarner region is experiencing a change in visitor demographics. While German and Austrian markets have seen declines, domestic tourists and visitors from Central Europe, including Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic, are driving stability. On the island of Krk, arrivals increased by 1 percent during the month of August.
