Slovakia: Milan Uhrík leads trust poll while government sparred over wind energy

A June poll of 1,027 Slovak respondents found President Petro Pellegrini most trusted at 40 percent, while party leader Milan Uhrík of Republika secured the highest trust among politicians outside the presidency with 31 percent. Prime Minister Robert Fico received 28 percent trust, and other party figures lagged behind, with several registering trust below 30 percent.

At the same time, Prime Minister Fico publicly declared that his government has no interest in producing electricity from wind and that no new wind farms will be built. Contradictorily, the deputy prime minister’s office ordered a 10,762.50‑euro 3‑D wind‑turbine model for the Pohoda music festival, prompting criticism that the government is sending mixed signals on wind‑energy policy.
