Slovakia Ministry of Interior orders removal of disputed radar cameras

The Slovak Ministry of Interior has ordered the immediate removal of two radar cameras used in testing mode due to unresolved questions regarding their origin and potential security risks. The ministry stated that documentation provided by the supplier failed to sufficiently prove the origin of the devices and their critical components, making it impossible to rule out security concerns.

General Prosecutor Maroš Žilinka has ordered a comprehensive criminal investigation into the procurement process. The controversy stems from allegations by the opposition party, Progressive Slovakia, that the cameras—identified as NERO R-ONE from a Cypriot company called Sodasus LTD—bear a striking resemblance to Cordon radar systems manufactured by the Russian firm Simicon. Critics argue that the lack of transparency regarding the supplier and the potential Russian connection pose a significant threat to national security.

The Ministry of Interior has requested an expert assessment from the National Security Authority and has demanded that the supplier provide immediate replacements that meet all Slovak and EU technical and security standards. The ministry emphasized that the devices were only in a testing phase, meaning no traffic fines were issued and no personal data leaks were detected during their operation.
