Slovakia: PM Fico denies privatization claims amid political criticism

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has rejected allegations from the newspaper SME that he is ‘selling off Slovakia’. Fico dismissed the claims regarding infrastructure and hospital construction projects as ‘primitive accusations’ and ‘nonsense’, asserting that his administration focuses on returning strategic assets, such as Transpetrol and SPP, to state control rather than privatizing them.

In a separate political development, György Gyimesi criticized former Judicial Council President Ján Mazák for contradictory statements. Gyimesi accused Mazák of making increasingly radical and inconsistent remarks, including suggestions regarding the establishment of a second Slovak Republic with a new constitution, suggesting such comments are an attempt to remain relevant.
