Slovakia to resume economic talks with Russia in Moscow

Slovakia will hold the 22nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation in Moscow on October 26. This marks the first such meeting since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

The Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the primary focus will be energy security, specifically discussing the continued supply of oil and gas, as well as cooperation in nuclear energy. The discussions aim to secure strategic resources for the Slovak economy.

Other topics on the agenda include agriculture, the environment, tourism, sports, and culture. While Slovakia intends to honor its EU and NATO commitments—including the EU plan to phase out Russian gas by the end of 2027—the government seeks to maintain a space for dialogue.

The Slovak delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár, with State Secretary Vladimír Šimoňák and representatives from SPP participating to address technical energy matters.
