Slovakia prepares for municipal and regional elections
Slovakia is preparing for combined municipal and regional elections scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026. As the election approaches, several key developments are unfolding across the country.
A strict election moratorium will take effect starting at midnight on Thursday, October 22, prohibiting political campaigning, advertising, and the publication of election polls until voting concludes at 20:00 on Saturday. Voters in the Trnava region are specifically advised that polling stations will close two hours earlier than usual and that no voting certificates will be issued, meaning citizens must vote in their place of permanent residence.
Political activity remains high as parties finalize their strategies. The Civic Conservative Party (OKS) has announced its participation in all eight regions, running both independently and through various coalitions. In the Prešov region, candidate Samuel Migaľ has rejected calls to withdraw in favor of other candidates, vowing to run his own campaign. Meanwhile, in Bratislava, the mayoral race shows significant shifts, with several candidates withdrawing or choosing not to seek re-election.
Public interest is also reflected in the betting industry, where bookmakers report rising interest in political outcomes. Additionally, local issues such as the quality of public transport systems in major cities like Bratislava and Košice remain central themes in various municipal campaigns.
