Slovakia reports environmental damage in Tatras and ZSE energy phishing scams
In Slovakia, authorities and companies are addressing two distinct issues affecting the public. In the High Tatras, conservationists from TANAP are reporting increasing instances of irresponsible tourist behavior. Visitors have been observed using mountain lakes as swimming pools and navigating trails on scooters or in inappropriate footwear. TANAP warns that even brief contact with water from cosmetics like sunscreen or repellent can damage the highly sensitive mountain ecosystem. To mitigate damage, authorities have increased inspections and installed barriers to protect lake shores.
Separately, a new wave of phishing SMS scams is targeting Slovak citizens by impersonating the energy company ZSE Energia. The fraudulent messages threaten recipients with immediate electricity disconnection due to fictitious unpaid debts and include malicious links. ZSE Energia has issued a warning, clarifying that they are not the senders of these messages and advising the public not to click on the links or provide personal data, but to verify account statuses through official channels instead.
