Slovakia rolls out national AI strategy amid rapid rise in public AI use

Slovakia has unveiled its first comprehensive artificial‑intelligence strategy, aiming to align policy, legislation, funding, education and technical infrastructure. The plan proposes around ten programmes and more than fifty concrete measures, targeting public administration, the economy, schools and health services. Officials stress that implementing projects, rather than merely adopting the strategy, will determine success, and they plan to focus on a core set of high‑impact services.

A recent survey shows AI tools are now used daily by 533,000 Slovaks in the first quarter of 2026—a 282 % increase from the same period in 2025—bringing total active users to 2.7 million. The most common applications are information retrieval, text generation and image creation. Adoption grew fastest in industry and manufacturing (+372 %) and construction/real estate (+273 %). Women and citizens aged 50 and older recorded the highest usage gains.
