Slovakia seeks UN Security Council seat during UN General Assembly meetings
Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár participated in a series of bilateral meetings during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. A primary objective of these discussions was to secure international support for Slovakia’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2028–2029 term.
Blanár held talks with representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Rwanda, Nepal, Belarus, and Singapore. During discussions with the UAE, both parties addressed the strengthening of bilateral ties following a recent presidential visit. The UAE expressed intentions to enhance its European presence by establishing an embassy in Bratislava to facilitate economic and investment activities. Additionally, the ministers discussed the fragile international security situation, particularly regarding the Middle East.
