Slovakia streamlines tax registration for professionals and debates ending transaction tax
From 15 June 2026 the Slovak Financial Administration will automatically register taxpayers in eight new source registers – including lawyers, tax advisers, architects, professional athletes and transport operators – eliminating the need for these groups to submit registration forms. The move is part of a broader reform that has already registered over 200,000 entities without paperwork.
Prime Minister Robert Fico said the government could abolish the controversial transaction tax, but only if an alternative source covering the expected €400 million budget shortfall is found. Industry leaders have also asked for a boost to the super‑deduction for research and development, proposing to double it from 100 % to 200 %, a measure estimated to cost €15‑20 million a year.
