Slovakia to commemorate Carpathian-Dukla Operation anniversary

Commemorations for the 82nd anniversary of the Carpathian-Dukla Operation will take place this Saturday at the Memorial of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps and the Military History Museum in Svidník, Slovakia. The event honors the military operation conducted from September 8 to October 28, 1944, which aimed to assist the Slovak National Uprising. The Ministry of Defense, along with the Ministries of Interior and Health, is organizing the program, which includes military technology demonstrations and a wreath-laying ceremony.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced he will miss the Dukla commemorations due to a viral infection. However, he expressed intention to travel to Belgrade, Serbia, to speak at a rally for the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). The event, hosted by former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, serves as a platform for the party ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25. Vučić, who recently announced his resignation from the presidency to run for Prime Minister, described Fico as a ‘great friend of Serbia’ who respects the country’s territorial integrity.
