Slovakia faces extreme heat and incoming storms

Slovakia is experiencing a period of extreme weather characterized by intense heatwaves followed by severe storms. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) issued second-degree warnings for the Komárno and Nové Zámky districts, where temperatures are expected to exceed 35 °C. The Public Health Authority has warned vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, about the risks of heatstroke and collapse.

Following the heat, a cold front is expected to move in from the west, bringing thunderstorms and strong wind gusts. In western Slovakia, wind speeds could reach between 60 and 80 km/h, with isolated gusts potentially hitting 100 km/h in the Danubian Lowland, posing a risk of property damage. This weather shift is expected to bring a significant drop in temperatures, with daytime highs falling to approximately 25 °C.

In Serbia, the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute has also issued warnings for high temperatures, with parts of the country reaching between 33 and 37 °C. Similar to Slovakia, a cooling trend and potential storms are expected to arrive by the weekend.
