Slovakia to hold combined municipal and regional elections in October 2026

Combined local and regional municipal elections are scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Voters will elect mayors, municipal council members, county council members, and county presidents. In specific locations such as Bratislava and Košice, voters will also elect district mayors and representatives.

Polling stations will be open from 7:00 to 20:00. Voters must cast their ballots at their designated polling station based on their permanent residence. To vote, citizens must present a valid identity card; driver's licenses and passports are not accepted, though a police-issued document may be used if a new identity card is being processed. Foreign nationals with permanent residence in a municipality are also eligible to vote, provided they present their residence permit.

The Ministry of Interior has released a list of all registered candidates via an electronic registry to facilitate voter information. For the elections, members of the vote-counting committees will receive 165 EUR, committee chairs 214 EUR, and minute-takers 206 EUR. Voters with mobility limitations may request a mobile ballot box through designated telephone numbers.
