Slovakia holds municipal and regional elections

Slovakia is conducting combined municipal and regional elections on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Voters will elect mayors, municipal councilors, regional chairpersons, and regional councilors. Polling stations will be open from 7:00 to 20:00.

A legal election moratorium began on Thursday, October 22, prohibiting political campaigning, the publication of opinion polls, and the display of political advertisements on social media or electronic billboards. The moratorium remains in effect until the close of polls.

To ensure clarity, the elections are color-coded: municipal elections use white envelopes and ballots, while regional elections use blue envelopes and ballots. Voters are advised that mistakes on ballots cannot be corrected by crossing out names; instead, they must request new ballots from the commission. The Ministry of Interior noted that while most errors can be resolved by issuing new materials, the vote is only finalized once the envelope is placed in the ballot box.
