Slovakia to introduce family card offering discounts for children’s needs

The Slovak Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family announced plans to launch a family card next year that will give households with children up to 18 years discounts on a wide range of goods and services, including food, hygiene products, clothing, books, cultural and sports activities, health care and educational supplies. Minister Erik Tomáš said the card will be a modern support tool, not a new benefit, and will operate as a mobile application supplied by a private‑sector partner selected through a public procurement process slated for the autumn. The programme aims to reduce everyday expenses for families without creating a new entitlement system.

The exact discount levels and participating retailers will be defined after contracts are signed, and the card is expected to be available to all eligible families once the procurement is completed.
