Slovakia traffic enforcement: Speeding and minimum limit violations

Slovak police are highlighting various traffic violations, ranging from driving below the legal minimum speed to extreme speeding.

On Slovak highways, drivers are legally required to maintain a minimum speed of 80 km/h under § 35 of Act No. 8/2009 Coll., provided weather and traffic conditions allow. Drivers attempting to save fuel by driving at 70 km/h can face a 50 euro fine, as driving too slowly is considered a violation if there is no valid legal excuse.

In a separate incident in eastern Slovakia, police intercepted a 43-year-old driver on the road between Dvorianky and Hriadky in the Trebišov district. The driver was clocked traveling at 210 km/h in a 90 km/h zone, exceeding the limit by 120 km/h. Following the incident, officers immediately seized the driver's license and prohibited him from continuing his journey. The case is being processed by the local traffic inspectorate.
