Slovakia vehicle inspections face brake safety and insurance verification issues

Technical inspection stations in Slovakia are facing scrutiny following data from the technical service TESTEK, which revealed nearly 18,000 instances where technicians failed to record brake defects. Analysis from 2024 shows that in 17,903 cases, technician evaluations did not match the actual measured values, with 74 percent of these discrepancies involving service or parking brakes. These errors pose safety risks, as insufficient braking force or imbalances between wheels may go undetected.

Separately, new regulations implemented on October 1 have changed the inspection process by integrating mandatory motor vehicle insurance checks. Authorized stations now verify insurance status electronically through state registries using vehicle registration and identification numbers. This automation removes the need for physical insurance cards but requires that data in insurance filings perfectly matches vehicle registration to avoid administrative failures during the inspection.
