Slovakia viral beach video ignites debate on child water safety

A TikTok video posted by user Sarah (known as @sarahsstillhere) showing a young child playing alone in shallow water at a beach went viral, attracting nearly one million views. The clip sparked heated online discussion about the limits of personal space on public beaches and the responsibility of parents to supervise their children, with many commenters condemning the lack of adult supervision.

Separately, Slovak health officials highlighted that drowning is the third‑most common cause of death for children aged 5‑14 in the country. The Slovak Swimming Federation and the Public Health Authority urged continuous adult supervision, the use of certified flotation devices, proper swimwear, and safe pool fencing. Chief hygienist Tatiana Červeňová emphasized that vigilance and first‑aid knowledge are essential to prevent tragic incidents.
