Slovakia Vision 2040 document sparks debate between government and employers

The Vision Slovakia 2040 document, developed by the Slovak Academy of Sciences, has become a subject of debate between government officials and employer organizations. Prime Minister Robert Fico addressed the National Council, emphasizing that the vision is a non-partisan concept designed to address long-term challenges such as geopolitical shifts, artificial intelligence, aging populations, and climate risks. He noted that the vision serves as a framework, with specific priorities and costs to be detailed in a subsequent document titled Strategy Slovakia 2040.

In response, leaders from major employer organizations, including AZZZ SR, RÚZ SR, and APZD, have urged against the politicization of the document. They described the vision as an independent, cross-party, and cross-departmental work created by experts to identify critical challenges like declining competitiveness, labor shortages, and demographic changes. While acknowledging that specific measures should be subject to data-driven debate, these organizations stressed that the document should not become a tool for partisan political conflict, as long-term economic stability requires continuity beyond single election cycles.
