Slovak conjoined twins to undergo separation surgery in Saudi Arabia

Conjoined twins Anička and Lucka, born in Bratislava, Slovakia, in June, are preparing for a surgical separation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The girls, who are joined at the pelvis, have already undergone initial procedures at the National Institute of Children's Diseases (NÚDCH) to ensure intestinal patency.

Medical experts note that while the twins share a pelvic connection, they each possess developed individual organs, including hearts, lungs, and kidneys. The family has already secured passports for the girls, and their father is expected to accompany them to Saudi Arabia for the procedure.

The specialized hospital in Riyadh has a history of performing such operations, having successfully separated 70 pairs of conjoined twins through a program funded by the Saudi Arabian government. The local municipality of Veľká Lomnica has indicated its readiness to provide additional support to the family following the twins' return home.
