Slovakian motorists face rising vehicle repair and inspection costs
Motorists in Slovakia are facing rising costs and new regulatory changes regarding vehicle maintenance and inspections. A driver reported a 1,600 euro bill for a single headlight replacement on a five-year-old Škoda Superb, highlighting the high cost of modern LED components.
Legislative changes proposed by SNS MPs aim to offer drivers a 'second chance' regarding missed technical (STK) and emission inspections. Instead of an immediate fine of up to 330 euros for missing both inspections, drivers could pay a 20 euro fee to receive a 30-day warning period to resolve the issue.
Additionally, experts suggest that using inexpensive OBD2 adapters, costing as little as 4 euros, can help drivers identify engine faults early. This can prevent minor issues, such as faulty spark plugs, from escalating into expensive repairs like catalytic converter replacements, which can cost hundreds of euros.
