Slovakia's average pension of €680 leaves most retirees struggling

Recent data from the Slovak Social Insurance Agency shows the average old‑age pension in Slovakia is about €680 per month. Only 11 % of Slovak citizens consider this amount sufficient for a comfortable retirement, while more than 80 % deem it inadequate. The public’s preferred pension range lies between €800 and €1,200 monthly. Analysts attribute the shortfall to high inflation, rising living costs and stagnant economic growth, with the National Bank of Slovakia forecasting just 0.5 % growth this year. Commentators from banks and asset‑management firms suggest long‑term investment as a partial remedy for future retirees.

The findings highlight a growing concern over retirement security in the country and may pressure policymakers to adjust pension formulas or introduce supplemental support measures.
