Slovakia's Peter Pellegrini attends UN General Assembly and unveils commemorative plaque

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has participated in several high-profile diplomatic and commemorative events. In Bratislava, Pellegrini, alongside Vatican Nuncio Nicolo Girasoli and Archbishop Stanislav Zvolenský, unveiled a commemorative plaque in the presidential palace garden. The ceremony marked the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis’s visit to Slovakia and featured reflections on the nation's history and its role as a messenger of peace in Europe.

Additionally, President Pellegrini traveled to New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. His agenda includes addressing the UN Security Council and participating in bilateral meetings to discuss UN reform, international peace, and security. A central component of this visit is Slovakia’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2028–2029 term. During his stay, Pellegrini is scheduled to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Czech President Petr Pavel.
