Slovakia's second pension pillar sees 240,000 new entrants
Over the past three years, approximately 240,000 first-time insured individuals in Slovakia have automatically entered the second pension pillar due to legislative changes implemented on May 1, 2023. Data from the Social Insurance Agency indicates that only about one in seven of these individuals chose a specific pension fund management company (DSS).
The majority of these individuals allowed the Social Insurance Agency to automatically assign them a management company after the decision period expired. This group includes not only young people entering the workforce after finishing their studies but also individuals under the age of 40 who became subject to pension insurance contributions for the first time after the May 2023 deadline.
In the third year alone, between May 1, 2025, and April 30, 2026, more than 105,000 new first-time insured persons were recorded. This addition represents over 5 percent of the total number of savers in the second pillar, which exceeded 2 million by April 30, 2026.
