Slovakia's Social Insurance to auto‑notify self‑employed on business suspension

From 1 August 2026 the Slovak Social Insurance Agency will automatically record and inform self‑employed persons when their business activity is suspended, eliminating the current requirement for them to report the interruption within 30 days. The agency must notify the individual within 20 days of the suspension or its end. Existing obligations remain for self‑employed operating under other permits, as well as for reporting other specific situations such as imprisonment or medical care. The reform aims to simplify administrative procedures for entrepreneurs.

The change applies only to suspensions occurring after the stated date; suspensions prior to 1 August 2026 still require the self‑employed to notify the agency themselves. Practical examples illustrate how notifications will be issued and how insurance obligations will be adjusted accordingly.
