Slovan Bratislava wins Champions League debut 2‑0 in Georgia

Slovan Bratislava opened its 2026‑27 UEFA Champions League campaign with a 2‑0 victory over Georgian champions Iberia 1999 in Tbilisi. The win came in the first leg of the second‑qualifying round, with Andraž Šporar scoring from a corner in the 25th minute and Alasana Yirajang adding a back‑heel strike six minutes later. The match marked the competitive debut of new head coach Yaya Touré, who guided the Slovak side to a solid start despite a later injury to Šporar, who was forced off in the 65th minute and replaced by Mykola Kucharevyč.

Swiss officials led the refereeing team, and the game was streamed live online for fans worldwide. Slovan will host the return leg on 29 July, aiming to secure progression to the group stage of the competition. The result also keeps their hopes alive for at least a place in the Conference League if they fail to qualify for the Champions League proper.
