Slovan Bratislava's Czech Extraliga bid sparks backlash from Vsetín fans
Negotiations regarding the potential entry of the Slovak ice hockey club HC Slovan Bratislava into the Czech Extraliga have sparked significant backlash from Czech hockey supporters and clubs.
Slovan Bratislava has presented a vision to Czech clubs and the Association of Professional Clubs (APK LH) that includes a request for a guarantee of non-relegation for the first few years. This demand for financial and competitive compensation has met with strong criticism.
Fans of the Czech second-division club Vsetín have protested the move, displaying banners at their stadium with messages such as “VLASTNÍ NEPUSTÍTE A CIZÍ VEMETE?” (You don't let your own in, but you take foreigners?). The protest highlights a sense of injustice among domestic clubs, as the current system requires winners of the second-tier Maxa liga to face a difficult promotion/relegation playoff rather than earning direct promotion. Critics argue that the league may administratively open its doors to a foreign club while maintaining barriers for traditional domestic teams like Vsetín and Jihlava.
