Slovácké divadlo to perform Jesus Christ Superstar open-air

Slovácké divadlo is preparing an open-air concert version of the rock opera ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ in collaboration with the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic. The production is scheduled to take place at the Baťa Institute on September 7.

The project has been in development for eighteen months and involves approximately 150 people. The performance will feature 80 artists on stage, led by conductor Jakub Klecker. The cast includes Tomáš Šulaj as Judas and Tomáš David as Jesus, both of whom have been nominated for Thálie Awards. Other performers include Kristýna Daňhelová as Mary Magdalene, Pavel Hromádka, Pavel Šupina, and David Vaculík.

Organizers noted the significant logistical challenges of the production, including securing rights for a non-traditional venue, obtaining musical scores, and managing complex sound requirements for an outdoor setting. The event is expected to host 800 spectators.
