Slovenia blocks EU condemnation of Israeli West Bank settlement plans

Slovenia has blocked a European Union joint statement intended to condemn Israeli plans for the E1 area of the occupied West Bank. The Israeli government recently announced a tender to build over 1,200 housing units in this strategic location, which would expand the Ma'ale Adumim settlement. Human rights advocates warn that the E1 project could effectively bisect the West Bank, separating the Palestinian city of Ramallah from Bethlehem and isolating East Jerusalem from the rest of the Palestinian territories, thereby undermining the two-state solution.

In a separate development regarding bilateral relations, Israel is scheduled to open an embassy in Slovenia this September to strengthen political, economic, and military ties. This move follows the Slovenian government's decision to reverse previous measures, including the ban on the export and transit of military equipment to Israel and the designation of two Israeli ministers as undesirable persons.
