Slovenia commemorates historical wartime battles and sacrifices
Commemorative ceremonies were held in Slovenia to honor victims of war and historical resistance movements. In Godovič, a ceremony titled ‘Life, Peace, Love’ was organized by students and teachers from the Godovič Branch School to remember the suffering of ancestors and the importance of peace and freedom.
The event featured recitations and historical presentations, including a depiction of Godovič’s role during World War I due to its proximity to the Soča front. Participants emphasized the value of preserving family documents and oral histories to connect future generations with the past.
In another ceremony regarding the events in Loški Potok, former President Milan Kučan spoke about the Battle of Jelenov Žleb, where Slovenian partisans fought against Italian occupiers 83 years ago. Kučan drew parallels between historical struggles for sovereignty and modern challenges, noting that contemporary generations face new battles involving civilizational shifts, environmental changes, and the rise of autocratic regimes globally.
