Slovenia education reform: Poll shows support for eight-year primary school
A public opinion poll conducted by the Parsifal agency for the Slovenian Ministry of Education, Science and Youth shows significant support for transitioning from a nine-year to an eight-year primary school system. According to the results, 45.9% of respondents support the change, while 28.8% oppose it.
Support varies among specific groups: 51.1% of parents of primary school students favor the transition, compared to 24.5% who oppose it. Among education professionals, support stands at 39%, with 36% in opposition. The survey, which reached 94.3% of participants, suggests that public sentiment may be more favorable toward the reform than current public debates imply.
Minister Borut Rončević stated that the results provide a clear signal and emphasized the need for professional dialogue to address questions regarding the consequences for children, parents, and teachers. The Ministry plans to continue discussions through a strategic council for education reform and ten specialized expert debates to shape concrete solutions.
