Slovenia emerges as a top European destination for active tourism
Slovenia is highlighted as a premier European destination for active tourism, offering diverse landscapes within its 20,000 square kilometer territory. Approximately 60% of the country is covered by forests, and over one-third of the land is protected or part of the Natura 2000 network, earning it the reputation of the green lung of the Balkans.
The country provides numerous opportunities for outdoor activities, including trekking, cycling, climbing, kayaking, rafting, canyoning, and spelunking. Due to its compact size, travelers can transition quickly from Central European urban settings to Alpine lakes or turquoise rivers.
Ljubljana, the capital, serves as a key starting point. With a population under 300,000, the city is easily navigable on foot. The historic center is centered around the Ljubljanica River, which features colorful facades, bridges, and terraces. The riverbanks act as social hubs for sports and leisure, contributing to a vibrant, youthful atmosphere, particularly during the summer months.
