Slovenia faces scrutiny over corruption and institutional integrity
Former director of the Office for the Prevention of Money Laundering, Damjan Žugelj, has raised concerns regarding potential systemic corruption and the influence of coastal networks within the Slovenian state. His statements highlight allegations of abuse, specific financial irregularities, and organized efforts to undermine state institutions.
In a separate discussion regarding the rule of law, former constitutional and supreme court judge Jan Zobec warned that systemic corruption and the erosion of institutional independence are undermining Slovenia's legal framework. Zobec addressed recent referendum results concerning RTV Slovenia funding and parliamentary investigations, noting that the close outcomes reflect public uncertainty. He also criticized the lack of decisive prosecution within the judiciary and highlighted efforts to block investigative commissions, specifically those aimed at uncovering abuses within the state-owned company Gen-I.
