Slovenia flash floods hit Karst region and Štanjel
Extreme rainfall has caused significant flash flooding and landslides across parts of Slovenia, particularly in the Karst region. In Kobdilje, rainfall reached 353 liters per square meter in a single night.
In the Štanjel area, nine houses and the local primary school were affected by flooding. The school's lower floor, covering between 200 and 250 square meters, was flooded, though cleaning and disinfection allowed classes to resume. Residential flooding was largely limited to basements.
A landslide has closed the road between Štanjel and Dolanci. Emergency response efforts involved 49 firefighters, members of the Komen Civil Protection staff, and school employees. Heavy rain also impacted the municipalities of Ajdovščina, Vipava, and Nova Gorica, resulting in approximately 45 emergency interventions.
