Janez Janša Forms Fourth Slovenian Government After Coalition Talks

Slovenian prime‑minister‑designate Janez Janša submitted the list of 15 ministerial candidates to the National Assembly, beginning the parliamentary hearings that will confirm the new coalition cabinet. The coalition brings together Janša’s Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) with partners including New Slovenia (NSi) and other centre‑right parties, securing a parliamentary majority with 51 votes in favour and 36 against.

The newly proposed government received public endorsements from civic groups such as the Katedrala svobode, which welcomed the “sixteenth government of the Republic of Slovenia” and urged restraint, dialogue and moderation. Polls released in December 2025 showed Janša rising in popularity, moving up three places in the latest ranking of Slovenian politicians.

Other parties and organisations, including the NSi, have put forward their own ministerial proposals, while the coalition agreement outlines plans for tax cuts, pension reform and a stricter migration policy. The formation of Janša’s fourth cabinet marks a decisive shift toward a right‑leaning government after months of political uncertainty following the March 2026 parliamentary elections.
