United Kingdom diesel prices hit record £2 per liter

Diesel prices in the United Kingdom have reached a historic milestone, surpassing £2 per liter for the first time. According to data from the motoring organization RAC, the average price has risen by 40.5% since the end of February, driven by rising oil costs linked to tensions involving Iran.

Filling a standard 55-liter tank now costs approximately £110, an increase of over £31 compared to late February. Unleaded petrol prices have also climbed, reaching roughly £1.75 per liter.

To mitigate supply concerns and potential export restrictions from the United States, the British government is engaging in discussions with European allies, including Germany, France, Italy, and Ireland, regarding the potential release of emergency diesel reserves. While the UK relies on the US for about 30% of its diesel imports, the majority of its supply is sourced from continental Europe, and the country maintains reserves sufficient for approximately 42 days.
