Slovenia economy accelerates with 5% Q2 growth

Slovenia’s economy showed significant acceleration in the second quarter of 2026, with GDP growing by 5% compared to the previous quarter. This growth was driven by strong domestic demand, a 13.2% increase in gross fixed capital formation, and a 3.4% rise in household consumption. The construction sector was a major contributor, with value added surging by 15.9%. Additionally, Slovenian trading companies reported a 7.8% increase in net profits over the previous year.

On a broader scale, Eurostat reports that the European Union's economy grew by 1.2% in the second quarter. While Slovenia emerged as a leader with a 5% annual growth rate, other regional trends showed mixed results. In the EU, new business registrations decreased by 0.5%, while bankruptcies rose by 5.7%.

In Croatia, economic activity is expected to show a slowdown in the second quarter, though the annual growth rate is projected to remain higher than the EU average. Historically, Croatia has maintained a steady growth rate of approximately 1.7% since 2016, allowing it to reach 78% of the EU's GDP per capita, while Slovenia sits at 90%.
