Slovenia government supports referendums on face covering and debureaucratization

The Slovenian government has expressed support for two consultative referendums: one regarding debureaucratization and rationalization, and another concerning the prohibition of face coverings in public spaces and public administration.

Regarding the face covering proposal, the government has confirmed an amendment to the law on the protection of public order and peace. The amendment aims to mandate face disclosure in public areas to ensure recognizability. Violators could face fines of up to 600 euros, while cases involving violence could result in fines of up to 5,000 euros.

The government stated that these are important social issues for which it is justified to seek voter opinions, noting that the measures must be justified by legitimate goals in accordance with the coalition agreement.
