Slovenia hit by severe storms and tornado

Severe storms, characterized by heavy rainfall and high winds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour, have struck Slovenia, with the Primorska region experiencing the most significant impact. In the municipality of Komen, a tornado damaged 15 structures, five of which sustained heavy damage.

Emergency services responded to approximately 150 reported incidents, activating 80 firefighting units to address damaged roofs, flooded basements, and fallen trees blocking roads. Wind gusts reached 106 km/h in Slavnik and 100 km/h at the Piran oceanographic buoy.

The storms also caused widespread power outages, affecting nearly 9,300 users in the Elektro Ljubljana area and approximately 5,800 in the Elektro Celje region. The Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) had issued an orange weather warning for the country. Heavy precipitation was recorded, with some areas receiving up to 60 millimeters of rain in western Slovenia during the evening.
