Slovenia imposes 1,000-euro fines for parking in natural areas
Visitors to the Kamniško-Savinjske Alps near Kamniška Bistrica have received fines of 1,000 euros for parking in natural environments. The Ljubljana Police Administration confirmed that officers were conducting intensified supervision in the area following an increase in reports regarding illegal parking.
The high penalties are not due to standard traffic violations, which typically carry much lower fines, but are being issued under the Nature Conservation Act. Following recent legislative amendments, parking or stopping motor vehicles in natural environments—defined as areas outside settlements—can result in fines ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 euros.
In one specific instance, motorists were fined for parking on a forest railway used for forest access. The enforcement has raised concerns among hikers and visitors regarding the lack of designated parking areas at trailheads.
