Slovenia launches project to protect Filipino workers from illegal employment
The Labor Advisory Office and a Filipino association have launched the 'Illegal Employment and Assistance for Ms. Marilag' project in Slovenia. Supported by the CSF program 2021-2028, the initiative aims to provide systemic protection for migrant workers.
The project was inspired by the case of a Filipino worker, referred to by the pseudonym Ms. Marilag. After working legally in Hungary, she sought employment in Slovenia through a recruitment agency. Despite assurances that her documentation would be processed, she was misled by both the agent and the employer. While attempting to regularize her status, she discovered that Hungarian authorities had revoked her permit without her knowledge, leading to a fine and an illegal status in Slovenia.
Project leader Goran Lukić emphasized that such workers are often victims of deception rather than intentional lawbreakers, leaving them unable to work legally and facing extreme financial instability.
