Slovenia and Croatia implement road safety measures and report crime statistics
In Slovenia, recent police reports highlight various traffic incidents and criminal activities. In Novo Mesto, an 18-year-old on an electric scooter was seriously injured following a collision with a car. In Maribor, police intercepted a novice driver traveling at 134 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. Additionally, authorities in Velenje reported a range of incidents including theft, burglary, and domestic violence, while Murska Sobota police detained 31 foreign nationals attempting illegal entry.
Crime statistics for 2025 in Slovenia indicate that prosecutors and courts primarily handled cases involving personal harm and property crimes, with adult males being the most frequent offenders.
In Croatia, the National Road Safety Day was observed with various preventive actions. Interior Minister Davor Božinović noted that while road fatalities have decreased by 36 compared to last year, the total number of victims remains high, exceeding 190. The ministry is focusing on the ‘four killers’ of road safety: speeding, alcohol consumption, mobile phone distraction, and failure to use seatbelts. New regulations are also being introduced to require the registration of electric scooters and to hold parents accountable for children under 14 using them.
