Slovenia police investigate online investment scams totaling 55,000 euros

Police in Slovenia are investigating two separate online investment fraud cases that resulted in a combined loss of over 55,000 euros for two victims.

In the first incident, a victim responded to an online advertisement for an investment platform claiming to use artificial intelligence to increase returns. After providing her details, she was contacted by a Croatian-speaking woman and instructed to make an initial deposit of 250 euros to a foreign account. Within days, the platform showed her investment had purportedly grown to 79,000 euros. An individual posing as an investment advisor then pressured her into making further transfers to cover trading costs, taxes, and profit withdrawals. The victim ultimately transferred more than 45,000 euros.

In a second case, perpetrators used an investment platform to convince another individual that they could significantly increase their wealth. The victim made two transfers totaling more than 10,000 euros before realizing it was a scam.

The Ljubljana Police Directorate has warned the public to remain cautious of online offers promising rapid, high returns. Authorities noted that high profit displays on digital platforms may be fabricated and that requests for additional payments for taxes or account activation are major red flags.
