Slovenia holds four referendums on parliamentary laws and social policy

Slovenia is holding four referendums this Sunday, including one binding legislative referendum and three consultative ones. The binding vote concerns amendments to the Law on Parliamentary Investigations, which the opposition claims could introduce a 'political police' and undermine democratic standards. Prime Minister Janez Janša has denied these allegations, stating the law aims to improve the efficiency of corruption investigations.

The three consultative referendums address the abolition of mandatory RTV Slovenia contributions, the conditioning of social assistance on community service for able-bodied recipients, and the removal of local voting rights for citizens of third countries. While the consultative results are not legally binding, the government has indicated it will consider them in future legislation.

An official electoral silence period began on Friday, October 9, following the end of the campaign. Authorities have warned that violations of the silence period can result in fines ranging from 800 to 3,000 euros for campaign organizers. President Nataša Pirc Musar has urged citizens to participate and make informed decisions.
