Slovenia proposes extended hours for administrative units

The Slovenian Ministry of the Interior and Public Administration is proposing to extend the working hours of administrative units. According to Minister Franci Matoz, the plan involves keeping these units open until 19:00 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The goal of the proposed decree change is to make public administration more accessible to citizens, allowing them to handle administrative matters in the afternoon without needing to take time off work. The Ministry stated that this move aligns with coalition agreement goals to bring public services closer to users.

To maintain the same total number of working hours, employees would start their shifts later in the morning. The proposed changes are currently undergoing inter-departmental coordination, and the government is expected to consider the decree at its next session. While the Minister expressed confidence in its adoption, labor unions, including the Conference of Administrative Unit Unions, reportedly learned of the plan through media reports rather than official consultation.
