Slovenia proposes increasing Individual Investment Account limits
Slovenian Finance Minister Andrej Šircelj has announced a proposal to double the contribution limits for Individual Investment Accounts (INR). Under the new proposal, investors could contribute up to 40,000 euros in the year an account is opened, with higher limits in subsequent years.
Speaking at the Capital Markets 2026 conference in Zagreb, Šircelj highlighted that inflation causes Slovenians to lose approximately one billion euros in purchasing power annually. He noted that while nearly 33 billion euros in household assets are held in banks—with 87 percent of these being demand deposits—many innovative companies struggle to access the capital necessary for international expansion and technological development.
The Ministry of Finance aims to pass the legislative amendment within the current quarter. The initiative seeks to activate idle bank deposits and strengthen the domestic capital market, following the previous government's introduction of similar measures.
