Balkan and Slovenian regions face travel delays due to heat and construction

Summer travel across the Balkans and Slovenia is facing significant disruptions due to extreme heat, road construction, and increased traffic volumes.

In Slovenia, the Environmental Agency (ARSO) reported record-breaking heatwaves, with numerous stations recording absolute temperature records throughout August. While temperatures are expected to moderate slightly, extreme drought conditions persist in most regions.

In Montenegro, Airports of Montenegro (AMCG) have implemented temporary measures to manage passenger flow at Podgorica Airport, advising travelers to arrive only two hours before flights and restricting terminal access to passengers and those requiring assistance. Additionally, the Auto-Moto Association of Montenegro (AMSCG) has warned of increased traffic at city entrances and border crossings, alongside numerous road closures for bridge and road reconstructions.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, BIHAMK reports heavy congestion at the Velika Kladuša, Izačić, and Zupci border crossings. Ongoing highway construction, such as the Nemila-Vranduk section, and road repairs on the A-1 motorway are causing significant delays. Authorities recommend that drivers plan trips carefully, avoid long-distance travel during peak heat, and take frequent breaks.
