Slovenia referendum signature collection faces technical issues

Efforts to collect signatures for a referendum against the Intervention Law for the Development of Slovenia have faced technical difficulties via the e-Uprava portal. While the Ministry of the Interior and Public Administration claims that issues were resolved by September 3, labor unions report ongoing problems during the signature collection process.

Trade unions and political groups, including Levica, have already gathered over 30,000 signatures. They argue the law threatens public services, including healthcare, education, and social security, and would impose cuts to wages and pensions. Specifically, the law aims to abolish a 1% contribution for long-term care from net pensions and grant full dual status to certain retirees.

Opponents of the law, such as the NSi party, criticize the Levica party for seeking a referendum that could potentially prevent these financial reliefs for pensioners. The signature collection period is scheduled to run from September 1 to October 5, with a potential referendum vote in late November if enough signatures are verified.
