Slovenian authorities have completed a major logistical operation to relocate inmates from the long-standing Ljubljana prison on Povšetova Street to a modern facility in Dobrunje. This marks the end of a 64-year era for the Povšetova institution.

The new Dobrunje prison, valued at approximately 86.5 million euros, is designed with a focus on humanization and resocialization. It features an atrium-style design with living modules for 16 inmates each, providing access to green spaces. The facility has a total capacity of 388 people, including 328 in a closed section and 60 in an open section.

The relocation was a high-security event involving judicial police, patrol units, and special police forces. The first convoys, which included high-risk inmates, departed in the early morning hours. The operation also necessitated temporary road closures in the Most district of Ljubljana to ensure safety during the transfer.
